Leaking & Burst Pipes

Burst pipes are a common plumbing emergency. Not only can they flood your home, they also increase your water bill, harm your home’s structural integrity, and result in mold issues. That’s why we will get this problem out of your way as soon as possible.
The best way to avoid major plumbing problems is through preventive maintenance. If you have any questions about properly winterizing your home and preventing burst pipes, give us a call and we will be happy to help.

Short answer: freezing temperatures. Burst pipes occur due to the unique property of water. Water begins to increase in density and reaches maximum density as it becomes solid, before finally starting to contract as it approaches the freezing point.

The pipe bursts when water is allowed to remain still in the pipes at the temperature when it begins to expand. This puts a large amount of stress on the pipes, which can cause them to distort, bulge, and eventually burst.

The reason burst pipes occur mostly during the night is because that’s when most homeowners stop using water. This allows the water to remain still and undergo that unique expansion as it changes to ice.

How Can We Help You Solve the Problem?

Before we arrive for repair, turn off your main water valve. Do this by turning the valve clockwise. This will shut off all water to your home and give you temporary relief while we’re on our way.
Once we arrive, we will assess the affected pipes and make preparations to remove the pipe before replacing it with a healthy section of plumbing. After the repair has been made, we will turn on the water again to make sure there are no more leaks.
We don’t just stop there. Our next step is to install a solution that prevents your pipes from bursting again without warning. Depending on your specific needs, we will add special heat lamps, insulation, or even work with you to reroute your plumbing that allows it to better benefit from the natural heat of your home.
